London. We started there because, well, it was closest. And they spoke English (sort of), so we could at least start out without having to deal with a foreign language. And the personal connection is that my great grandfather was born there.
An awesome visit, it certainly lived up to the billing as one of Europe’s four best tourist cities. Here was our stay, summarized in 10 pictures (plus the cover photo, which is St. Paul’s Cathedral).
This was the view out the window of our Airbnb. MI-5, the home of British secret service. Most British food is forgettable. But a “full English breakfast” is pretty cool. And VERY filling. A friendly bobby in front of Parliament agreed to let us take his picture. As did the “pretend” bobby in front of 221B Baker Street (the fictional home of Sherlock Holmes for the uninitiated.) Big Ben, picturesque any time of day and in any weather. The London Eye, which provides great views of London. And here is a shot from inside. Westminster Abbey. Unfortunately I lost my picture of the tomb markers for Lewis Carroll and C.S. Lewis when I lost my iPhone. The Tower of London, home to the crown jewels. And of course there is the thrill of seeing the real Buckingham Palace.
